A Brand, Not a DO
Region & History
Is Corpinnat just a new name for Cava? No, and it isn't an EU appellation either. Corpinnat is a private collective trademark that producers in the Penedès created and manage themselves. Anyone who carries the mark commits voluntarily to stricter rules than the law requires for sparkling wine.
It started with a group of six houses that joined forces in 2015: Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca and Torelló. Four years later the members left the DO Cava, as the Gustofolio wine journey through the Penedès tells it. Since then they've sold their sparkling wine under their own brand name.
The roots of these houses go back a long way. Gramona traces its origins to the Celler Batlle winery, founded by Pau Batlle in 1881 in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. Recaredo was founded in 1924 in a small cellar in the home of Josep Mata, in the same town. Nadal dates the beginnings of its sparkling wine to 1943, according to the house, while Llopart claims more than 135 years of experience.
The volumes remain modest. In 2024, the then 13 members together sold 2.22 million bottles. By comparison, the DO Cava shipped around 190 million bottles in 2025. In return, every bottle of Corpinnat is made in-house from grapes grown in the region. Juvé & Camps, another traditional house from Sant Sadurní, announced its switch to Corpinnat in 2026, so the group keeps growing.
For buyers, this means the label won't say Cava or carry a PDO, but rather the brand name with its own seal. The following sections show step by step what sets the contents apart, from the vine through the lees to the dosage. A DO like Cava is defined by the state, whereas with Corpinnat the members set the rules together.
