Preparation
- Fill the serving glass with solid ice cubes.
- Add the measured ingredients. The pink grapefruit soda goes in last and is poured in slowly, so the carbonation is preserved.
- Stir gently until the ingredients combine. For ingredients used to top off, leave some room for the garnish.
- Finish with a garnish: a lime wheel.
What does it taste like?
Grapefruit sets the tone: sweet, sour, and with that characteristic bitter edge only this fruit has. The carbonation keeps it light and sparkling. Underneath you taste the tequila, earthy and vegetal, as pure agave tends to be. The small amount of lime sharpens the acidity even further. Salt is the secret trick: it tones down the grapefruit's bitterness and lets the fruit taste rounder. With 50 milliliters of tequila to 100 milliliters of soda, the drink is long and moderately strong.
