Preparation
- Chill the serving glass. Add the measured ingredients to a shaker.
- Add plenty of solid ice cubes and shake hard for about 10–15 seconds.
- Strain through a Hawthorne strainer into the chilled glass; the shaking ice stays in the shaker.
What does it taste like?
First you taste orange, sweet and bitter at the same time. That comes from the Aperol and the second bitter liqueur, which adds herbal, slightly caramel notes. Then the lemon kicks in and pulls everything sharply together. The bourbon stays in the background, contributing barrel sweetness, though it doesn't get much room: all four parts are equal in size. It's served without ice in the chilled glass and warms up over time. In the finish, the bitterness lingers on the tongue longer than the fruit.
