Preparation
- Chill the serving glass beforehand. Add the measured ingredients to a shaker.
- Add plenty of solid ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds.
- Strain through a bar strainer into the chilled glass; the shaking ice stays in the shaker.
- Garnish to finish: a cocktail cherry, if desired.
What does it taste like?
The first impression is sour and fresh, thanks to the lemon juice. Right behind it stands the juniper from the gin, herbal and dry. Maraschino and Crème de Violette add sweetness to the glass: it tastes of cherry, but not jammy cherry—more like cherry stone with a touch of almond. Only a bar spoon of the violet liqueur goes in, yet you notice it immediately, floral and almost perfumed. The drink stays lean and cool, since nothing creamy is added. Still, it's strong: aside from the lemon, everything in the glass is alcohol.
