Preparation
- Shake the gin, lemon, and simple syrup hard with ice; hold back the blackberry liqueur.
- Strain into a pre-chilled tumbler filled with crushed ice.
- Slowly pour the Crème de Mûre over the surface in a circular motion.
- Finish with garnish: blackberries and a lemon slice as desired.
What does it taste like?
At first you taste the sour: lemon makes it tart, sugar syrup takes the edge off the acidity, and the gin stands behind it with juniper. The blackberry liqueur initially just sits on top. The first sips are therefore bright and fresh, while later ones become fruitier and sweeter. By the end, the whole glass has turned dark and tastes distinctly of berry. The crushed ice chills intensely and dilutes as it melts, which makes the Bramble easy to drink. Still, it packs a punch, since 50 milliliters of gin is a full measure.
