Preparation
- Fill the serving glass with solid ice cubes.
- Add the measured ingredients. Cola goes in last and is poured in slowly so the carbonation is preserved.
- Stir gently until the ingredients combine. When topping up with an ingredient, leave a bit of room for the garnish.
What does it taste like?
Bitterness isn't a side note here—it's the whole point. Fernet-Branca tastes of herbs and mint, and both remain clearly present even once plenty of cola is added. The cola brings sweetness and caramel notes that soften some of the herbal edge. Carbonation adds sparkle and lightness, despite the 50 milliliters of fernet packed in. In the finish, the bitterness returns and lingers for a long time, almost like an herbal candy. As the ice melts, the drink turns milder and the mint comes through more strongly.
