Eine Rebsorte sagt etwas über den Wein, aber weniger, als der Name vermuten lässt. Riesling von der Mosel und Riesling aus dem Elsass teilen die Traube und wenig sonst; Herkunft, Jahrgang und Ausbau verschieben das Ergebnis oft stärker als die Sorte selbst.
Trotzdem ist sie der nützlichste Startpunkt, den es gibt: Sie steht auf fast jedem Etikett, und sie steckt einen Rahmen ab. Wer weiss, dass Merlot weichere Gerbstoffe mitbringt als Cabernet Sauvignon, trifft im Regal schon eine bessere Wahl.
